History and art buffs will love the Palazzo dei Priori, a 13th-century Gothic palace with striking ornamentation. Today, the palazzo houses the city’s main art gallery – the Galleria Nazionale dell’Umbria – which is full of Renaissance masterpieces by hometown artists.
You’ll want to linger in Piazza IV Novembre, which has been a central meeting point since Etruscan and Roman times. Grab some gelato and sit by the marble fountain (Fontana Maggiore) to watch the street performers. Then, head into the medieval-era Cattedrale di San Lorenzo to glimpse dramatic, soaring Gothic architecture. Don’t skip out on the local wine and olive oil either!
